What is RoHS?
The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive is one of the most important global regulations for electronic and electrical equipment (EEE). Its purpose is to reduce the environmental impact of electronics by restricting the use of specific harmful substances.
Core Principle: RoHS limits the concentration of 10 hazardous substances in homogeneous materials.
Global Reach: While it originated in the EU, similar regulations now exist worldwide, including China RoHS, UK RoHS, California Prop 65, and others. For manufacturers, compliance has become an essential step in accessing global markets.

What Do the Standards Cover?
The EU restricts the use of 10 substances to a particular threshold.
Lead (Pb)
Mercury (Hg)
Cadmium (Cd)
Hexavalent Chromium (CrVI)
Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB)
Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE)
Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) Phthalate (DEHP)
Benzyl Butyl Phthalate (BBP)
Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP)
Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP)
Why It Matters for Designers and Engineers
In the U.S., at least 10 states have adopted their own versions of RoHS, while many others have little or no related legislation. However, in today’s global marketplace, electronic products often cross borders multiple times during their lifecycle.
For engineers and product designers, this means:
Planning for RoHS compliance early in the design stage helps avoid costly rework later.
Following the most restrictive rules often proves simpler and more cost-effective than trying to maintain multiple versions of a product.
Ensuring compliance makes products more sustainable when they eventually become e-waste.
Acquiring a Declaration of RoHS Compliance from Projet
At Projet, we specialize in manufacturing parts and small assemblies that form elements of larger products. While final product compliance remains the responsibility of the selling company, we help ensure our contribution aligns with RoHS requirements.
Material Guidance: We can advise on the RoHS status of the materials and finishes we use.
Documentation Support: Data sheets provide a first reference, but we always encourage customers to confirm with us directly if RoHS compliance is critical to their project.
Customer Support: Reach out to our team at enquiry@projet.my for detailed information on the materials we offer or parts we’ve produced.

What We Provide: Our Declaration
Upon request, Projet issues a Declaration of Conformity for the specific parts or assemblies we manufacture.
This declaration certifies that:
-
The materials and processes we control—including 3D printing filaments, metal stocks, plating, dyes, and finishes—comply with RoHS restrictions for all ten substances.
-
Compliance is backed by Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Certificates of Compliance from our trusted raw material suppliers.
By partnering with Projet, you can be confident that the components we provide support your product’s environmental and regulatory obligations.
